A Mommy/Daughter Date

I've been feeling so sorry for Alaina lately. On Tuesday we spent the day at my mom's house, where Alaina spent the afternoon running around their nice backyard. We got home at about 8:00 that night, and I put her to bed. She didn't move a muscle until 8:00 the next morning. I know this, because her covers were in the exact spot that I had put them the night before, which NEVER happens to my little night-wiggler. In fact, on Wednesday she slept in until 8:00, went back to sleep around 9:00 during her room time, and took an almost 3 hour nap in the afternoon. All that fresh air and exercise wore her out.

I know that she has so much energy. I have almost zero. So today I took her to the mall to see the puppies. We weren't there very long and she didn't get to walk too far, but I hoped that it would help burn off a fraction of the energy that seems to ooze from her pores. It's so hot out today, or we might have tried the park, although I'm not sure how much walking I can do at this point. She does her best to run around our tiny place.

I also took her to McDonald's for lunch. This is really only the second time I've ever done it, but I wanted to give her a treat, because she really has been very good this week. And I don't know how much of that we're going to do once Baby Sister comes.

I think I'm starting to grasp the parental desire to shower your child with every good thing imaginable.

Ah, Innocence

Last night after dinner, Lee got the urge to watch a few choice scenes from Turner and Hooch. I hope you've all seen that movie; it's a Tom Hanks classic.

Alaina was sitting and watching with us, and we were pointing out the big, gross dog and his drool. Well, at one point, Hooch busts out of the room he was locked in and D E S T R O Y S the house. Lee laughed and we said "Bad dog!" to let Alaina know that it really is not okay to destroy a house. Well, the scene is a little long as you see everything the dog gets into. After about two minutes, Alaina started to cry and yelled "No no no!"

It was so sweet to see her bothered by something on TV. I will mourn the day she loses that.

My 2-Year-Old

Alaina is a 2-year-old. It is hot. I'm pregnant. And so, here are some things that Alaina does that I think are cute:
  • She loves to sing.

  • She loves to jump.

  • She just had her very first dentist appointment and acted like a champ. She wouldn't sit in the chair unless I was in it, but she let them count AND clean her teeth. She loved the water and suction.

  • She likes to tell me she'll "be right back."

  • She likes to greet strangers if she thinks she is going to make eye contact with them.

That's all I can think of for now.

Wordless Wednesday

One of my favorite pics, taken on our excursion to the mountains in June.
